The iron railing-fence surrounds the brick building at the corner of N Fourth St and Columbia Street. This building was built in 1847, and owned by Dr. W. W. Nassau. A native of Pennsylvania, he moved to Burlington in 1855, and began his practice. He was a highly respected doctor, and helped build two very prominent buildings in The Downtown Commercial Historic District, The Elk Building (Nassau Building), and the Grand Opera House (now torn down). This building is located on the lot of the first brick house built in Iowa, to Judge David Rorer in 1836, and is within the boundaries of the Heritage Hill Historic District.
