Kansas Rt66 Sign

$25.00

Product Description

The Rainbow Bridge sits about three and a half miles north of Baxter Springs, and was originally known as The Brush Creek Bridge. It is the last standing fixed Marsh Rainbow Arch bridge left on Kansas Route 66. The concrete steel truss design was patented in 1912, and over 70 of these bridges were erected throughout the Midwest, including Kansas. This bridge was built in 1923 and the 130-foot structure carried Route 66 travelers from Baxter Springs to Riverton over the Brush Creek. It was bypassed in the 1960s, and put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The bridge was saved in 1992 and many groups have been faithful in its preservation every since. It is truly stepping back in time to drive/walk across this historic bridge, linking the 13 miles of Route 66 in Kansas.
