North Hill Bench on Bricks

This brick walkway in the Heritage Hill Historic District winds its way up Court Street, across the way from North Hill Park. The various color patterns of the brick are what caught my eye for this photo. I wanted to stop and sit on the bench, to take in this summer's day in one of the most historic areas of town. It was on this hill, North Hill, that one of the first settlements in Burlington was created, by the “Father of Burlington”, Dr. William R. Ross, in 1833. This was 13 years before Iowa became a state.
