Looking north along Main Street, one can take in a great view of the downtown area of Burlington, including the train yard and grain elevators. Railroad transportation arrived in Burlington in the 1840s, and along with river boats and barges, was a primary means of establishing and continuing economic growth and development of Burlington. Railway systems like the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) and Amtrak (California Zephyr) use this train yard daily.
