Standing 20 feet tall, this metal sculpture was built by local high school students in 2018. The Route 66 Shield took two years of work, with guidance from FFA advisers. The Kansas Department of Transportation donated scrap metal, and the 66 was created from old hubcaps. There is a small parking lot between the traffic circle and SE Beasley Road, and is a short walk through a mowed grassy field. This is a photographic stop along the 13 miles of Route 66 in Kansas!
Photo taken with iPhone XR, June 2024 in Riverton, Kansas along Historic Route 66.
